The dumbest TV I have ever seen.

Very rarely do I see something that causes me to jump up a grab my computer and blog. However, today I was watching something so idiotic that I had to yell out.

Today on Tyra Banks ( I was just flipping through the channels and I caught it, I swear) Jennifer Love Hewitt was on. Now, she was talking about ghost whisperer. This is a show that I have not seen, but I think it kind of fits in that genre that is so popular now of:

1. There is a mystery
2. There is a detective/ person that can see ghosts/ spectres/ memories/ imagined things.
3. These things give the detective clues that no one else sees.
4. The detective solves the crime.

This, of course, started with the 6th sense and really culminated in that awful show that Jeff Goldblum must have made a boatload for....

This of course is different then the classic detective show of:

1. Someone dies
2. Detective is there
3. Detective actually gets own clues.
4. Detective solves crime. (Usually its for real estate on Matlock, for inheiritance on Murder She Wrote, and for revenge in Columbo)
5. Freeze frame ending after a joke.....

Now, this show was J-Love showing all of these photos and videos of "Ghosts" on the set of her show....

Which just happens to be about ghosts.

I thought it couldn't get any dumber unitl they showed the audience sitting there with gaped maws, not believing what they had just seen. It was like they had just seen the greatest thing ever..... It reminded me of the audience on those Ron Popeil adverts.

The other thing about the pictures is that most of them "only happened" when J Love was around. Thats strange that the show would want its most attractive person to be in most of the pictures.

Luckily I have been studying physics all day so that the dumbness was not able to overtake me.

On a normal day though, I could have become a zombie! And then I would go attack J Love.

SO WHAT!!

Its a homonym...

I am not posting this to be strictly anti-Bush ( I try not to go political on what should be a classroom blog, although not many students are reading in the summer). I am publishing it because I find the punchline so funny.....

I stole this from another blog.

Cheney tells Bush that, on top of everything else, 3 Brazilian soldiers have been killed. To the surprise of everyone, Bush gets really pale and puts his head on his desk. Then he looks up and says "And tell me, how many million are in a Brazilian?"

Ha ha

My sweet hamburger recipe....

Admittedly, I based it off of this...

but it was way too garlicy and tasted like a big meatball in a bun....

So I have fixed it up. But just like when the Joker got his plastic surgury, we all make a few mistakes... My advice is to really limit that thick sauces ( ketchup, bbq sauce, mayo)

I made these for the fam and I was just about to show off when the burgers totally melted....

A lb of meat sitting in the coals is the saddest thing ever.....

Serves about 2 ( if you are hungry)

1 lb of meat 85/15 or grind any cheaper meat....
1/2 cup of cheese
3 tbs of worchester ( I know that is not quite spelled right... don't actually look for worchester sauce)
2 tbl spoons of tabasco
1/4 cup bbq sauce
Salt
pepper
some dry onion soup mix (tough ingredient but key)
Oregano
Parsley
Chilli powder
Lawrys
(all above spices are about 2 tsp)

Get hands under cold water

Make 3 patties (or whatever)

Brush with olive oil.

Grill grill grill to med rare.....

Brush the buns with some butter (add garlic and parsely to it) and grill while burgers cool on top rack. Plus, you should throw on some pepper jack.

No guarantees, but I guarantee this is a TASTY BURGER!

Pair with ore ida fries or corn on the cob cooked on the grill.....

Most of the comments in youtube have been about how good this baby will be at fighting...

It proves the point that 7/10 people are morons....

The Morning of the Half Marathon

So I was up at 4:45 on Saturday at ready to go. I was getting dressed and wanting to make it to UMD by about 5:05. This is when the nerves started to set in. For one thing, I woke up and it was pretty hot out.....

Weather for Sat June 16th temp Humid
6:00 AM
Partly Cloudy 61°F

90%

As I was putting on my brand new socks and I realized that my toenails hadn't been cut for a while. Remembering that I was wearing brand new shoes I cut my toenails quickly and rushed out of the door. grabbing my bag with the Forerunner 305, two bagels (one with cream cheese and one with peanut butter), two liters of water, a banana, a clif bar, and four Gu shots.

Looking back on this list, it sounds like I was planning to be abandoned on a deserted island. I realized that I should have eaten a little earlier when a runner type ahead of me said "Oh I should have eaten a little earlier!" Meanwhile, I am sitting there eating a bagel and a banana.

Of course, I realized today that just because someone looks like a runner, it doesn't mean that they know anything.

So anyway, on the ride to the bus, we passed a woman in a number who had gotten t-boned turning into the bus stop. It made me very thankful that I was having a realitively relaxed morning.

So I said goodbye to Jenny (took the picture from below), and I went the the half marathon buses and hopped on the first open one.

Everyone avoided sitting with me until the bus was full and someone decided to squeeze in next to me.

Well, sure enough, a guy sits behind me and decides to talk about everything in the world that bothers him. Whether its people at the race, or people warming up too much, or the Minneapolis Marathon (not as good as Chicago I guess) this guy was hosting a one man radio show. And, unfortunately, I was the guys number one fan.....

So in desperation I finally turned to the guy next to me and started talking to him. He turned out to be one of the nicest guys. He was an older guy and he told me that he only raced in this one race for a long time. So then he told me that he owned a sailboat up in Bayfield ( a personal dream of mine) and for the rest of the trip we talked about sailing and how much we loved it.

It was so much fun that I almost forgot I had to run 13.1 miles in a little bit.

More to come.......

This guy loves bagels....

Before the Half Marathon

Well, I ran the Gary Bjorkland half marathon yesterday and I figured I might as well blog about it for the thousands of people who constantly ask me about my blog!

The race was on Saturday and I was at the cabin sailing all week. Being a good trainer, I also brought my shoes to the cabin and did a run there to get ready for the big race. (I call it a race, but it was more of a "can I do it or not?")

Well, on the way home from the cabin.

-Hello

- Hey rob, its your sister.

-Hey, whats up?

- Do you have another pair of running shoes at home?

-(Silence)

- Hello?

- Oh no, did I leave them there?

Which, of course, is a dumb question because I had obviously left them there!

I was an hour away and I really did not want to drive back, so I told them I would be fine. I ended up buying a brand new pair of shoes The Day before the Race!! I also bought four gel packs and some nice running socks.

So that night I wore my shoes for their only break-in to the sign up. It was at the DECC in Duluth and by the time we made it there and parked, my sister was coming in a couple of hours so I thought we would be and out real quick and grab my goodie bag.

Well, the sign up was in a huge room full of vendors and local stores. It was funny seeing a respectable store like Austin Jarrow right next to a guy selling socks and various bags off of a flimsy table. It reminded me of a computer floor show I went to in Rochester where I was convinced that everything was stolen. (Where else could I get 50 jewel cases for my cds though? )

Well, I got the ticket from a woman who was secretly upset that I "came all the way from Duluth." Sorry lady.....

We then cruised some more boothes (Jenny stopped at almost every one) and finally went to Grandmas for a dinner of spaghetti before I was to run 13.1 miles the next day.

Finally, my sister showed up right as we arrived home and we watched the office as I prepared for the next day by putting together the outfit. I decided to put my name on a lot of stuff after I saw it on some ad we got in the goodie bag. It turned out to be one thing that actually went right for me. I also charged up the old forerunner 305 so I would be able to keep track of the paces.

I had already decided on my out fit and I decided to represent St. Olaf football. ( It was my way to explain why I didn't look like your average runner.)

I got all set up without incident and then I went to sleep at about 11:30 but it took me almost an hour to fall asleep and I had about the worst sleep of the world. Parties were going on around us, cats started fighting, and it was too hot.

I started to get a little nervous about making there on time. ( I had to be at the bus by 5:15 the next morning)

On the plus side I don't think I had any running dreams. That would have been too much. More to come!!

Obviously this man is a professional. (Notice the bagels)

Have about 4 hrs to burn?

This is the game that stole my haircut yesterday....

I was sitting at home about to leap up and clean the car and the floors and feed the cat and go get a haircut. All before my cousin's wedding which is this weekend.

Instead I start playing this game and it is ridiculously addicting. All it is is stickmen shooting at each other.

I knew I was in trouble because I started setting time limits and then seeing that I was already 15 min over, I said forget it....

So finally I won the game but for the rest of the day, I had some seriously scratchy eyeballs. Which is the worst.

Well, I am off to the state meet where I have a kid throwing shot and disc.

Don't play this game unless you like seeing 5 hrs disapear!

The Size of things in the universe....

This is a great video.

It really makes you think about the size of things when you see this.

It is also amazing when you think about the chances of us living on such a perfect little planet. It is not too close to the sun and not too far.

The size also helps us have an atmosphere that is thick enough to protect us without causing greenhouse effects.....

I love the part at the end when you think that OK the sun is pretty big.

But like They Might Be Giants say,

"The sun is only a medium sized star!"

Update: "The video actually works now"

Who has visited me today?
