Giant Dog!

This is an email that I received from a friend and I thought that this reallly fit in with the class. This is aperfect example of how mutations can affect certain species.

If Hercules here is able to spread his DNA, you are looking at a new species of superdog!

According to answers.com, the mastiff was originally used for the Roman "sports" of bullbaiting and bearbaiting. It was essentially a fight in an arena that pitted a dog vs. another animal. The size and courage of the mastiff was also complemented by Ceaser when he invaded Britain.

Imagine being in the army and seeing this dog running at you! In only a couple of thousand years, humans have developed this dog through selective artificial breeding! Imagine what could be made if you gave it a couple (4.6) billion years!

Hercules

Hercules was recently awarded the honourable distinction of Worlds Biggest Dog by Guinness World Records. Hercules is an English Mastiff and has a 38 inch neck and weighs 282 pounds.

With "paws the size of softballs" (reports the Boston Herald), the three-year-old monster is far larger and heavier than his breed's standard 200lb. limit. Hercules owner Mr. Flynn says that Hercules weight is natural and not induced by a bizarre diet: "I fed him normal food and he just grew".... and grew... and grew... and grew.

Of course, the two people could be little people and it could be a minature pony.............
